Did you know that one of the most quintessentially British cars is made just on the doorstep of the Cotswolds? Meet the Morgan - a true icon of style and craftsmanship, and a dream for any motor enthusiast.

You don’t see many of these on the road, but when you do, heads turn! We had the incredible experience of driving one through the Cotswolds, and it was like being in a rolling exhibition. People stopped to ask, “What car is that?” and “What year is it from?” - a testament to Morgan’s timeless appeal.

The Art of Handcrafted Cars
Morgan Motor Company, based in Malvern on the edge of the Cotswolds, has been making cars since 1909. But this isn’t just any car factory - this is where cars are still built by hand, using skills that have been passed down for generations.

The most popular model, the Morgan Plus Four, first appeared in the 1950s, and the way they build them hasn’t changed much since.
What makes these cars truly special? A blend of elegance, lightness, and pure driving pleasure. The frame is crafted from hand-carved and steam-bent ash wood, which is then placed on an ultra-lightweight, adhesively bonded aluminium chassis. Add in a BMW TwinPower Turbo engine (custom-built for Morgan), precision wiring, and handcrafted leather interiors, and you have a car that feels as special to drive as it does to admire.
Each vehicle undergoes a meticulous inspection and road testing before it’s handed over to its owner. With only around 1,000 cars produced each year, every Morgan is a bespoke masterpiece, built with the finest materials.
You Don’t Have to Buy One to Drive One
Owning a Morgan is a serious investment - the Plus Four starts at £69,995 - but the good news is you don’t need to buy one to experience the thrill. Morgan Motor Company offers short-term rentals, whether for a few hours, a day, a weekend, or longer. It’s the perfect way to take one of these classic British cars out on the road without the commitment.
If you do decide to go for it, I’d highly recommend starting with the factory tour. Walking through the production line, seeing the craftsmanship up close, and hearing the stories behind the brand made my drive feel even more special.

Hitting the Road in a Morgan
And what better place to drive a Morgan than through the rolling countryside and historic villages of the Cotswolds? Imagine winding country lanes, historic villages with honey-coloured cottages, stopping in lively market towns - all while sitting behind the wheel of a car that turns every journey into an event.
If you’re thinking of making a proper trip out of it, I’d suggest staying a bit longer. Graziers Cottage makes a perfect base - this 300-year-old cottage has all the charm and character you’d hope for, plus all the modern comforts you need. And, of course, there’s off-street parking - handy if you’re arriving in something as special as a Morgan.
